HOW IT ALL STARTED

Our Origin Story

Our story began in the early ’90s with an “accidental” leap into business. Fresh out of school, founder Jewel was juggling work, her two daughters, and helping at her dad’s clinic (she also installed his very first computer, “...you’re welcome, Dad”). Inspired by her mom’s entrepreneurial spirit and the idea of building a career with purpose, she knew she wanted to run her own business.

A move to Edmonton and a role in a healthcare association sparked the idea. She saw a gap: organizations needed someone who could pull off thoughtful, strategic events without losing their sanity. BUKSA was born and quickly grew as associations and non-profits sought our level of support.

Three decades later, BUKSA has grown into a dedicated in-office team - still family-led and still helping mission-driven organizations across Canada and the globe bring big ideas to life.

Meet jewel

Jewel is a seasoned entrepreneurship and economic-development leader with 30+ years of experience in business, governance, and strategic marketing.

She founded BUKSA to bring high-quality, customer-focused event and association management to mission-driven organizations. As former Chair of Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, she built trust-based partnerships, transformed board operations, and drove major growth.

Known for her energy, intuition, and inclusive leadership, Jewel combines strategic insight with a deep commitment to building meaningful, lasting impact.

Meet maureen

Maureen is a strategic communicator with over a decade of experience across association management, project coordination, and board governance.

She brings clarity, efficiency, and creativity to every initiative, from public consultations to accreditation programs. Known for her steady leadership and ability to bridge strategy with logistics, she serves as executive director for many of the associations BUKSA manages.

Maureen leads the Association Management portfolio, ensuring strong governance, engaged members, and operational success for organizations across sectors.

Meet kerry-leigh

Kerry brings 15+ years of experience managing global events for brands like FIFA, Coca-Cola, TikTok, and Samsung.

She has led opening ceremonies, multi-day festivals, large-scale exhibitions, and international conferences with precision and creativity. Her sharp eye for design ensures every detail aligns with client goals, while her expertise in leading cross-functional teams keeps projects seamless and on track.

At BUKSA, Kerry directs event production and leads the team with a focus on strategic oversight, operational excellence, and memorable experiences.
